Almost 2 months!

Yeah, I haven't update any news for a LONG~~~~ time. I know I know.

What was I doing lately? baby stuff of course~ other than that, I am addicted to cookie baking. (maybe because it is the holiday season??)
I have always been able to cook/roast yummy food but not when it comes to dessert making/baking.

The week before thanksgiving I bought 1 of those ready-to-back cookie dough and did my 1st cookie baking try-out. it worked out pretty good. That sure boost my confidences on my dessert making skills~ So last weekend I dragged my hubby and bought all the regular cookie baking essentials then I tried to start from scratch and make my own cookie doughs following the recipes I found online. The result.......................

TERRIBLE!!!! I end up throwing away the 1st batch and almost throw out the 2nd batch as well. I found that even I follow the recipe precisely I still end up with uneatable cookies aka wet dough. So to prove that I can bake cookies I didn't throw away the 2nd batch, instead, I saved them and I throw in some extra flour and re-bake them. Tada~!!!!!!! I fixed it! no black smoke during baking and no raw cookies...they actually taste pretty good!

1week Update

My baby is finally here on time on his due date Oct. 10th! It would be nice if he comes next year 10/10/10 however I think he would not wait for another year :P so, 10/10/09 is fine~~

1st week goes by so quickly, and extremely chaotic. Our little monster Fla-Fla decided to be an angle during the day for the others and transforms into a little devil at night time. If we can catch 1hr of sleep at night it would be a miracle~

Friends keeps telling me everything will get better in time. I DO hope so......else I would start crying before Fla-Fla does :P

Being a parent is still a little surreal to me, I think being pregnant is easier than being an actual parent. One thing for sure, taking care of my princess Dorayaki is definitely easier than taking care my prince Fla-Fla. XD Hubby asks me "ready for 2nd one?" I said "sure, if u can take care both on your own."

What a weekend~

Previous weekend we spend some time on both Saturday afternoon and Sunday night to do our last little of baby shopping. We have accomplished many things. Bought stroller, bath tub, changing table, play pin, pumpkin seat, car seat, and other baby essentials. As well as set up all of them after we got home. We worked till almost midnight on Saturday but it is all worth it. We have found out that we do not need to buy anymore baby clothes since we have received enough of them at our baby shower the previous week. However, to get the baby's room done we still have a way to go.

This morning we got our be-late baby shower gift from one of my hubby's boss, which is a swing we picked on our baby registry. It is sitting by the front door now waiting to be assemble once Mr. Hill gets home~

Haven't have a chance to take pictures for the things we bought during the weekend, but hopefully I will have them ready to post up on FB for my parents to see it since they can't be here yet.

I really need to give a big hug and thank you to my mother-in-law, she helped alot. *HUGS*

My Baby Shower

Here are a sneak peek from the baby shower's picture.

Top: Bryen and Me opening the gifts. Bottom: Mr. Hill's 5days old picture

Top: Party Favor. Bottom Cake and Cup-Cakes for the shower

Above: The crib now is full with toys..

Last Saturday was my first baby shower. Thanks to my Mother-in-law everything was perfect (was it?! let's forget about the dog issue for now) Mostly people from Bryen's work came and of course Nana and Papa fly all the way from Bermuda. Uncle Danny and Aunt Dawn's family drove up all the way from Palm Beach. They were all here just for me~ I am so thankful ~

Unfortunately the teachers from my Chinese School coldnt make it, but they have decided to throw me a party when the baby is month old. (very Chinese style baby hower)

Lots of food, drinks, and presents. I was overwhelmed by the amount of presents we have received....that reminds me I have to take more photos of the gifts we received. I thought I have all but guess not, I am missing some that I received pior to the baby shower.

For now the crib is full with toys and the dresser is cover in baby clothes....Bryen and I both think we don't need to buy 0-3moths clothes forever now. Still lack for 3+ months but that is going to be my mother's job when she comes from Taiwan :P

With all the gifts we received the most precious is the picture of my husband when he was 5days old. Gave me by my mother-in-law, I wasn't plan to cry at my baby shower but I gave in when I saw the picture.....:P

On a side note, my baby shower's theme is "Winne the Pooh"! XD many things we have received are by Winne the Pooh and they are just all so cute!!!

Update on the baby

Well, it took us 17 weeks and 6 days to find out our baby's gender, and yes, it is a boy~~

I personally don't really care if it is a boy or a girl, I just want a helthy baby.
Here we go~ the first picture is a baby's profile, you can see the pretty nose and pretty shape of baby's head. When we were doing the ultra sound we actually saw our baby moving quit alot. He even waved at us. The second picture is a laying down view of our baby's butt. The tech that day did on purpose for those of you who have problem reading ultrasound pictures :P Yeah, she pointed the penis for you to let you know it is a boy. hahaha...I still find that arrow pretty funny being there pointing at the little penis....

Mr. Hill and I decided we will not start getting baby's room ready, we want to wait till our baby shower and see how many free gift we get. :P After my baby shower we then well get the baby's room ready. Untill next ultrasound, here is all I have for baby update.

Oh, we still haven't decided on the name, it is a difficult job...since we both don't like common names. Our baby is gonna be screwed up :P he will have a unusual first name, Chinese middle name, and "Hill" as his last name. All I can say is "GOOD LUCK! baby boy"!!

New Recipe - Sweet & Sour Shirmp

I did this dish a while ago before we moved. However, never had the chance to sit down and write about it.
I actually looked many online recipies and then came up my own version. They all use pineapples, mayo and green peppers.
I add different kinds of vegetables due to limited resources from my old fridge :P
I love the taste of it, and I put lots of lettues at the base so whenever I grab a bite of the shirmp I can get some of lettus to make it more clean taste instead of heavy.
I dipped the shirmps in a flour/egg batter so they will taste better after I deep fried them. I diceided to cut the shirmps into smaller pieces because the shirmps I had they were SUPER JUMBO size....so a full shirmp will be too much to eat with.

Moving and The New House

Stainless appliences~~~ huge cooking and moving space! LOVE IT!!!!

It only took us 1 day to do the actual moving part. Thanks to Jason (who flew all the way from LA to help us), my mother in law, and of course my sexy hubby~ They basically did all the moving part. What did I do? I moved my baby Dorayaki :P

They keep telling me "pregnant lady go rest, go sit down" since I took order very well, so I did sit down and rest most of the time. I think the total moving hour was 14hours? (according to Mr. Hill's calculation)

Now for the unpacking part, I did alot of those, since most of them does not require heavy lifting or extream walking. I think I did okay, took us only 2 days to fully unpack ourselves. Did not do much on the Sunday because of my work. Now that everything have been put away the way I visioned I feel I am home finally~ It did not take me anytime to adjuest to the new house, maybe I am used to live in big house? XD

I was going to show some pictures, but then for privatcy reason I have decided only to show my favorite part of the house "The Kitchen!" :P sorry~

Dumplings! 水餃!

Vegetable Version of my homemade dumplings

Meaty Version of my homemade dumplings

Finally have the time to sit down and write about the day I made those homemade dumplings~

It was a Saturday afternoon when I drag Mr. Hill to come with me and pick up things he wants in the dummplings. We bought the extra thin skin for our dumplings along with chives, Chinese cabages, green onions, ginger, and grounded pork for the meat dumplings. Vegetables version I used bean curds, bean thread noodles, mushrooms, and chives.
I didn't realized that since it is thin skin, 1lb skin have more than 50 wrapers....I bought 4 lbs skin. 1lb = > 90skins so I end up with almost 400 dumplings hahahaha.....
It took me over 2 days to make all of them because I under-estimated the amount of filling I need so we end up going back to the supermarket and bought more filling~
The end result was wonderful, and our honor guest Jason loves them! which means I am not lying when I said I make good homemade dumplings! :)

Tada~~ Don't they look delicious?!

Pressure

Ok...my 4 cousins all got their ultrasounds, and their results are the same = they are all having boys..........!
what a shock....now they are asking "what about yours?" haha, I wish I know the answer to that question. Honestly, I would love to know, however the OBGYN here is very weird, I will have to wait for another month or 2 months before I know the answer.

I can't decide if I want a boy or a girl. If a boy, it might be cheaper to raise the kid, but girl got all those cute baby clothes and toys....argh....so hard to choose which one I want more.

Going to my OBGYN appointment next week, if I get lucky, they will let me know the gender, if not, I will have to wait for another month. (I really think I don't need to wait till week 19 or so to know the gender~ but whatever~ )

Special Flavor of Sunkist from Bermuda

Yeah, the first night we went to supermarket to pick up some drinks so we have things to drink at home, my hubby showed me the 2 most wonderful sodas you can ever drink. Pineapple and Strawberry Sunkist!

I have never see these two any where else in the world I have been to. (yes, I did went to many countries already. half of the world as you can say :P) I would have to agree with my hubby the pineapple is just slightly better than the strawberry. I would still say they are both good, if you want to me pick one as my favorite, I would have to say pineapple one. Of course there are more special drinks in Bermuda, however I forgot to take a picture of the famous Ginger Beer......It goes good with the Bermuda Fruit Punch.

Other than these sodas, whenever we went to a restaurant I will let my hubby order drink for me. I found out the Bermuda fruit punch is very good, better than Hawaii fruit punch. The fruit flavor is stronger, and different restaurant will use different fruit as their main flavor. The Italian place we went for dinner the first night have a slightly stronger cheery flavor. From the famous Swizzle Inn, their special drink "The Swizzle" has a stronger pineapple flavor. At Freeport restaurant their fruit punch have Ginger Beer in it!

I just love all the drinks I had in Bermuda. Hubby told me there are 2 special liquor from Bermuda, first is Black Seal Rum, the other is form The Swizzle Inn, called "Swizzle with Rum". Too bad I am not a liquor person so I would never know how they taste like :P.

Food in Bermuda

Food in Bermuda are generally very expensive. Since Bermudian makes lots of money so they don't really effected by the high living cost there. However, for tourists it is some expensive vacation!!!! Luckily we stayed with my father in law so we don't have to worry about the expensive food/living part :P

Out of everything I ate, I forgot to take a picture of the giant lobster I ate for dinner the other night at Freeport seafood restaurant...and also the pizza at Pizza House. Oh, and the pasta we had the first night when we arrived....that was some delicious shrimp bisque penny pasta.

This is the typical Bermudian Sunday Breakfast, "Cod fish with Potatos" it comes with banana, boiled egg and avocado. The red sauce is special made marinara sauce, I personally believe it would go with anything. Only because it tasted so good.....
I could eat this meal any day, at any time. However this is their Sunday breakfast. They should make this Monday-Sunday breakfast XD

The chipotle hamburger from the famous Swizzle Inn, hubby said it tasted good, I trust him. The Cole slaw was wonderful too! and even the fries.

My Pot Roast pork with gravy and cheese on bread. Also from the famous Swizzle Inn. It was so good and huge in portion as well.

The famous Bermuda Fish Chowder. You can put the famous Sherry pepper (with or w/o Rum) on top to boost up your taste! I had a bowl every meal if it is on the menu. It is so good that you will forget what is Clam Chowder :P

The most wonderful vacation!

View of part of the island from Gibb's Hill Light House

Private beach of Warwric Long Bay

It was the most wonderful vacation I've ever had. I get to spend alone time with my lovely husband. He was an excellent tour guide, he showed me all the beautiful spots of the island. I am so in love with Bermuda. All the houses are all so colorful, the special rooftop, the pretty color walls....It is truly a most beautiful place for vacation. I cant believe my husband was born and raised on this wonderful island!

We had only really 3 days to tour around the island, he speed showed me some fort, dockyard, lighthouse...all the yummy seafood restaurants. Meet with almost all the family members (even it wasn't planned). Tried all the delicious fruit punch, special sodas....and of course the super Ginger Beer!

I had a great time, and definitely will go back next summer with our first baby if we have the vacation time from both of our jobs. The people are so friendly in Bermuda, they will say hi and greets you even you are a total stranger. This was a extremely wonderful experience of my life. I thank my father in law and my step mother in law for their kindness to let us stay with them. Lend us their car :P and showed me around the island and eat out at those so delicious restaurants. Of course I even went to their work to meet with their co-workers/employees. They asked if I want to live there one day, I sure would!

Bermuda, I am coming!!

Our original plan was go on a Mediterranean Cruise around August but since my due date is in October, so we decided we going to hold off the cruise. Instead, we are going to Bermuda next week! 4 days 3 nights...sounds good to me.

It will be my first time to go to the island. First time to visit where Bryen was born and raised....I am very excited and looking forward to the trip. Bryen already planned out where to take me and what we gonna do there! I think this will be a great trip before my belly start showing and before I walk like a turtle :P.

Other than regular sight seeing, we are going to help my father in law to move if possible. If not, just means we get to spend whole 4 days relax on a popular vacation island! I really don't know what to expect....no Chinese food for 4 days...I think I can take it XD. Hopefully I will remember to take lots of pictures so I can write a blog about the trip.

Not many things to prepare before the trip, just need to remember bring my bikini and sun block! I am preying I will not come back have a brown-ish skin....(I love my pale skin right now)

Something New

Was working like every other day at the work, then Mr. Hill asked if I want to try these new candy while I was in Kim's room and I did. I was not sure at first....but after 1 bite, I was surprised! they are so delicious!! it has melt balls inside, and covered with milk chocolate and the outer candy layer.

I then told Mr. Hill I want those very bad, since I am the one carring the baby he tried his hardest to find where we can get those XD. Thanks to Tammy we then know that you can get it almost anywhere since Easter is coming.

We went to Walmart after work and got me 2 bags of those sweet Robin Eggs Mini. They do have the regular size, but I prefer the mini, because it is more like bite size.

A Good Read

Ever since I found out that I am pregnant, I started to wonder if I need to find some books to read while expecting our baby to come. Thanks to my mother in law she saved my problem :P she researched for me, and even went to the store and got it for me. Ta da~ this is the book she picked.

I haven't finish the whole book yet, but so far I find this book very helpful, it gives you all the information you need. So far it answered most of my questions I have been thinking/wondering. I would recommend all the mother-to-be to get their hand on this good read. :) Maybe when I finish the book I will do a book review hahahahaha.....

Strawberry Fever

If you know me, you will know I am a fruit-monster! there are very few fruits that I don't like. Talking about the fruit I love the most...Mango, Lian-Wu (a Taiwan only fruit), Strawberry, Duran and Watermelon. Ever since I moved to Canada I enjoy lots of strawberries every year during the spring season. I would go to Costco and buy maybe 4 boxes of those super big strawberries and if I am on time I can get 2.99 for 1 box! with pretty good quality. Only need one afternoon, I can finish maybe 1 box just by myself XD. Yes, I am very scary when eating my fruits.

Yesterday, I finally dragged my hubby to Sweetbay Supermarket before we went back to the office. I really want to visit Sweetbay because I see their commercial everyday saying they have strawberries on sale! As soon as we walk in, I can smell the strawberries....omg..that sweet smell!! We picked 2 big boxes because 2 boxes for 2.99 USD. (what a great deal!) It didn't took us too long picking the perfect box, the quality from Sweetbay are surprisingly good. I think we will go visit there more if there is one near our place. Or, I will just drag my hubby with me whenever I feel like XD.

Of course I couldn't wait to taste them after we got home later that night. They are not those typical super-sized strawberries, they are more on the small side. It doesn't really matter, because they are so yummy!!! Very very sweet....that fact actually is not something I was expecting.

Yeah, I already finished over half box....I can not help, I just love strawberry...

Bean-baby

Yeah, that was my first impression when I see the ultrasound hahaha...
Unlike Mr. Hill, he says that looks like my 3rd kidney Orz.
It was really amazing to actually see something grow inside you, the experience is very touching. Especially during the first few month, the mother normally don't feel anything special or different. For me, the biggest change is I now take nap like crazy. Morning nap, afternoon nap, I can go on for hours. I talked with other mother-to-be, they all say it is normal to feel tired easily. However I think in my case, I am just a napping-machine hahaha.

It is hard to see the heart beat in the pictures I got, but when I was at the doctor's office, I can see the heart blinking on the screen. I didn't cry, I was more like laughing, because the shape of the baby. Hopefully when we go back to do another ultrasound the end of this month the baby will look more like a human instead of a bean or 3rd kidney =.=.

I feel really good that we finally got our first ultrasound done and know that everything is normal for our first baby. To share with other mother-to-be...the experience waiting for your ultrasound taken isn't so pleasure. They made you drink 32oz of water/liquid one hour before your ultrasound, please DO follow that one hour rule. Don't be like me and drink almost two hours early, it will make you do the "funny dance" when you are at doctor's office while you are waiting for your turn......

For now, both side of our parents are busy with picking either Chinese middle name or English first name. Mr. Hill and I are also picking our own favorite, however I don't find many boy names that I like...girls names are easy and there are lots of them. So unfair...but what can we say?

Oh! there is another thing the nurse told us, next time when we go do our ultrasound we might have the chance to know the gender for our baby! only if the baby flip into a good position hahaha, wish us luck!

February 15, 2009

Exciting news!

It caught us by surprise, kind of...! Yes we are going to have our 1st baby/babies. I haven't go to the OBGYN and get the 1st ultrasound yet, and from both our sides' history...there's a chance we could be having twins! omg...just the thought of it make me happy, not scary. If I am having twins...that means I would not need to be preganent again :P because our goal is to have 2 kids.

I am like all other woman, never believe if you do just 1 pee test, I have to go all out and went for 2 tests! XD I was thinking doing more but Mr. Hill took me to our family doctor to confirm the good news, so it stopped me from peeing on more sticks hahaha

Can't wait to meet my baby! We don't really care if it is a boy or girl, as long as he/she is healthy.

Was Lazy The Whole Month

Yeah, as the title says, I was feeling lazy the whole month. However, I got some good news. I now have a second job as a file clerk at the same Law Firm my hubby works at. It sure feel nice to go work together, eat lunch then go home together! and the best part is my office is bigger than his! XD (coz I am in the conference room hahahaha) Other than that, I have a new class to teach on Saturday morning as well, so from now on, I am fully booked during the weekend! and 2 days a week for the work at law firm. I am sure a busy woman!

I would love to update my trip to Taiwan and post all the pretty photos....I guess I really need to get everything together! I will finish this quick update and come back here some other times to post more.

Jet Lag is a killer

Just got back from a wonderful holiday trip with my hubby. We went back to Taiwan to visit my family/relatives and some high school friends. Too bad Alison left just the day before I arrived, else we HS gang sure will have a even bigger blast! :D

The trip itself was probably the best trip ever. Timetable was busy.....have too many things to do everyday. Family and relatives to visit .....things to do...to buy....to eat....Also big thanks to Chamil for the trip to the east side of Taiwan that I never been able to explore before.

As for now, the jet lag is killing both my hubby and I, 13hr differences really is not my favorite thing :(

I think the most memorable for me from this trip was the quality time we spend with my lovely family. I miss them a lot....and I really don't get to see them everyday. That is why I treasure this trip so much. The many hours and laughter we spend and had just to get a perfect family picture hahahahaha priceless! here is a sneak peek, the rest have to wait till I sorted everything out. And of course, more blog will update once I am stop being lazy :P
